Helmsdorf/Zwickau - On October 12, Schachtbau's managing director Michael Seifert and Kay Exel, head of the plant engineering department, symbolically handed over the key to the new water treatment plant in Helmsdorf to Frank Wille, head of WISMUT's Ronneburg site. With this, the water treatment plant could officially start the planned trial operation after a good 1.5 years of construction.
Since April 2020, SCHACHTBAU NORDHAUSEN GmbH has been constructing a new water treatment plant for radioactively contaminated water in Helmsdorf, north of Zwickau, as part of a consortium with BAUER Resources GmbH. The client is WISMUT GmbH, which is remediating the areas contaminated by uranium ore mining and the former industrial tailings facility (IAA) in Helmsdorf. The water treatment plant, for which the complete electrotechnical equipment and control system for the treatment process was also realized by ARGE, is an essential part of the tailings pond and reliably cleans the leachate in several stages for the next decades.
