Nordhausen - On July 20, Danny Bodenstab, head of the Mining and Plant Engineering division, presented a donation check for 1,000 euros to Dr. Hoy of the Ellrich mountain rescue team. André Hoy, who provided medical support for the Corona vaccinations at Schachtbau, is a volunteer with the Ellrich mountain rescue team. The donation is to go toward the purchase of two e-bikes, with which the mountain rescuers of Thuringia's northernmost mountain rescue team plan to regularly patrol the area of operation to locate and remedy sources of danger such as sinkholes.

"Due to numerous caves and sinkholes, the karst belt in the southern Harz region poses dangers for walkers, mushroom pickers and amateur geologists, but also for pets," explains André Hoy. In spring, for example, a border collie that had been trapped in a sinkhole for six days had to be rescued from its life-threatening situation by the staff of the Ellrich mountain rescue service. To avoid accidents of this kind in the future, the mountain rescuers from Ellrich are planning regular patrol rides with the e-bikes.
