Nordhausen and Erdenet/Mongolia - As a company strongly influenced by mining, Schachtbau not only has decades of expertise in mining, but also in welding technology: For 30 years, the company has had its own in-house welding course center. Schachtbau would like to contribute this know-how, as well as a not inconsiderable number of machines, to the project "Establishment of an internationally recognized training and advanced training program in welding in Mongolia", which is being carried out by the Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). In addition to SCHACHTBAU NORDHAUSEN GmbH, cooperation partners include the Mongolian company Hasu Megawatt LLC and the EIT college of the ERDENET MINING CORPORATION SOE, which together with GIZ form the developpp initiative.
The aim of this joint development cooperation is to raise welder training in Mongolia from the previous national standard to an internationally recognized standard. In concrete terms, this means supporting the establishment of a welding training center, the qualification of welding instructors - so-called welding foremen - and the establishment of a national testing center in Mongolia in accordance with the ISO standard.
To this end, Burkhard Senk, head of Schachtbau's in-house production control and welding supervision department, began in the summer of 2020 with the selection of ten new EWM welding machines to be supplied for various welding processes. Before shipment to Mongolia in December 2020, the equipment was first tested for quality and functionality at the Nordhausen site. In addition, the opportunity arose to receive ventilation technology and other equipment technology from a DVS training center in Kleve. In Mongolia, this equipment will be used to equip the course center, which is located at the EiT Technological University in Erdenet.
On site, the instructors are thus qualified as welding instructors so that they can subsequently train the welders in the individual training centers in a standardized manner and lead them to a qualification with an internationally recognized examination certificate. The supervision of the welding instructor training and the acceptance of the welding examinations are initially carried out by the SLV Halle. This will enable the Mongolian welding profession to establish itself on an international level.
Since then, the implementation has taken almost two years. On May 10, the welding course center in Erdenet was officially opened in a ceremony attended by representatives of all cooperation partners as well as representatives of the German Embassy and the Mongolian Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Together with the equipment financed by Schachtbau and the equipment organized by Kleve, a total of 16 welding booths for electrode hand, metal active gas, metal inert gas and tungsten inert gas welding were set up in the course center. Another booth was equipped with equipment technology for plasma cutting.
After the opening of the course facility, a joint project meeting was held in a camp 60 km away. There the further procedure of the project, but also the installation of the test laboratory of the cooperation partner Hasu Megawatt in Ulaanbaatar were presented and discussed. In addition, further project measures for the training of the welding instructors and the exchange of experience of the newly trained welding instructors, which will take place in Nordhausen and Halle in the summer, were discussed. Afterwards, the participants followed the invitation to the "most beautiful traditional yurt of the country", where they celebrated in the traditional festive dress typical for the country, because shortly before, the project coordinator Ms. Gurina had announced the extension of the project until the end of the year.
