Salzgitter - On November 14, representatives of the Orano Group and the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), a U.S. research facility of the Department of Energy (Department of Energy) visited the future Konrad mine repository in Salzgitter. They were accompanied by Schachtbau's Managing Director Michael Seifert and Wolfgang Pünnel, BMA's Head of the WEM (Water, Energy and Mining) Division.
The United States Department of Energy (DOE) is responsible for energy and nuclear safety within the US federal government. Its responsibilities include, among other things, the management of radioactive waste. In this context, the U.S. experts had the opportunity to exchange information with their German colleagues and to get an idea of the current status of the work on the future repository during a very extensive underground tour.
