Nordhausen - From January 31 to February 2, job blogger Franziska Strupf's path led her to Schachtbau Nordhausen. On her 23rd stop of the job marathon through northern Thuringia, Franziska would also like to introduce some of the eleven apprenticeships offered here. Schachtbau Nordhausen trains mining technologists (m/f/d) and miners and machinists (m/f/d) in the mining sector, and concrete and reinforced concrete builders (m/f/d), carpenters (m/f/d), bricklayers (m/f/d), construction equipment operators (m/f/d) and special civil engineers (m/f/d) in the construction sector. During her tour of the site on Industrieweg, Franziska focuses on apprenticeships in the metal and electrical sectors. These include the occupation of construction mechanic (m/f/d), cutting machine operator (m/f/d), metal technology specialist (m/f/d) and electronics technician for industrial engineering (m/f/d). The trainees gain practical experience in the training workshop and in the production halls of the mechanical engineering department. Among other things, leader masts, undercarriages for drilling rigs and winches for mining are manufactured here. Franziska was visibly impressed by the size of this equipment.

But it doesn't stop there: In the production halls of the Steel Construction business unit, bridge elements are made of steel, the dimensions of which exceed those of the mechanical engineering equipment by far. Construction and machining mechanics are also involved in the production of these steel components, for example in welding the individual components. But this process also goes one step further, as Franziska subsequently discovered when she used the seven-axis welding robot. With expert support, she was able to operate the robot herself and weld the seam of a telescope.

After the excursion into mechanical engineering and steel construction, the tour continued to the training workshop. Here, in addition to training manager Thomas Gottwald, there are three training supervisors who support the trainees with their experience and as contact persons for all matters relating to training. Robert Siebold explained to Franziska the various metalworking equipment, such as the NC lathe. She was then allowed to practice operating these machines herself.

After three exciting days in mechanical engineering, in steel bridge construction and in the training workshop, job blogger Franzi concludes: "Professions in the metal and electrical sectors are incredibly versatile and the areas of application for skilled workers are very extensive. Anyone who completes their training at Schachtbau Nordhausen has a very good chance of being taken on and of developing their skills and interests. Franzi's scout for the day, Thomas Gottwald, is the best example of this: Like numerous colleagues, he has been a shaft builder since his apprenticeship.
