Nordhausen - At the Supervisory Board meeting of SCHACHTBAU NORDHAUSEN GmbH on March 17, 2021, Supervisory Board Chairman Michael Stomberg praised the development of the BAUER subsidiary. Despite the corona pandemic, the 2020 financial year was successful. The revenue target of 120 million euros was missed by only eight million euros. Schachtbau CEO Michael Seifert is therefore extremely confident that Schachtbau will also "develop well" in 2021, citing an initial positive sign: After twelve months of short-time work, this measure could be terminated on March 1, 2021. Due to the corona pandemic, SCHACHTBAU NORDHAUSEN GmbH was also forced to introduce short-time work in March 2020. However, this was kept at a relatively low level and largely limited to the mechanical engineering business area. As a result, only 20% of the 950 employees were affected by short-time working and received short-time allowance from the state, which Schachtbau topped up to 90% of regular net earnings. Due to the fact that the order situation in the mechanical engineering sector is picking up again, it has now been possible to end the short-time work. In addition, it is currently even necessary to hire temporary workers to cushion current order peaks.
In the mining, plant engineering and steel construction businesses, the main challenges over the past twelve months have been the implementation of more demanding hygiene concepts and more difficult logistics on construction sites.
The company's headquarters in Nordhausen also took account of the requirements of the German government. Since the beginning of the year, employees whose work permits this have increasingly been working from their home offices.
Throughout the period of pandemic-related restrictions and a high degree of internal flexibility in personnel planning, the company nevertheless continued to recruit new staff, particularly in the areas of plant engineering and mining. In addition, 35 apprentices started their training at Nordhausen's largest industrial company in August. In addition, Schachtbau is still looking for qualified technical and management personnel.
