Bremerhaven - The go-ahead for the replacement of the more than 100-year-old bridges in Cherbourger Straße in Bremerhaven was given back in 2009. On behalf of DB Netz AG, the steel erectors from Schachtbau Nordhausen 2021 also completed the first, western superstructure. Following this, pre-assembly of the second, eastern superstructure started at the beginning of this year under the direction of project manager Benedikt Jagelski.
Finally, on August 12, the 69 m long, 8.3 m wide and 7.63 m high steel structure bridge could now be moved under the direction of the company Wagenborg Nedlift from the Netherlands.
After the two lifting gantries for lifting the bridge had been pre-assembled two days earlier, the bridge weighing approx. 370 tons could be lifted at the pre-assembly site on the shifting day, the SPMTs (Self-propelled modular transporters) including superstructures were positioned under the superstructure and the bridge was then placed on the SPMTs. Around noon, the steel structure was then ready lashed down for transport over the approx. 300 m long and slightly sloping gravel road. At the end of the site set-up area, the bridge now had to wait until the Cherbourger Straße / Langener Landstraße intersection was cleared, in order to be moved down the Dudweiler Straßer and into its final position at around 18:00. Around 9:00 p.m., the shifting was completed and the Cherbourger Straße / Langener Landstraße intersection was clear again, so that the traffic lights and other traffic equipment could be reassembled. By October 2, the new bridge should be completed and opened to train traffic. Pedestrian and cycle paths will still be completed by January 2023, so that the Cherbourger Straße bridge construction project with a total contract value of around 20 million euros will be completed after a good 13 years of planning and construction.
