More than 25 years of experience in bridge construction characterize our comprehensive steel construction activities also current. Planning, production as well as pre-assembly and final assembly of steel components are performed predominantly by our about 120 employees in personal contribution and with own stock of equipment.

The preliminary highlight of our technical development is definitely the production and installation of a network arch for the Bøkfjordbrua near Kirkenes in Norway. Our company built it in successful cooperation with a local civil engineering contractor on behalf of the Norwegian Road Administration Statens vegvesen and was able to hand over the project on schedule in September 2017.

In a spectacular action and under the most difficult conditions around 400 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle the in Germany completely prefabricated 120-meter-long steel superstructure could be turned into its installation position. At that moment the bridge had completed almost 3,000 kilometers on the high seas along the Hurtigruten.

As well in the field of repair and reconstruction of steel structures we are competent and high qualified to handle the most demanding structures. Leading the technical management within a consortium for the structural steel restoration work at the Müngstener Brücke in Solingen we are significantly involved in the preservation of the listed structure of the (at 107 meters) still highest railway bridge in Germany.

Our outstanding capabilities in the field of welding technology we demonstrate as prime contractor for maintenance and repair work at the projects Rheinbrücken Leverkusen and Duisburg-Neuenkamp for many years.

We are your innovative, versatile and reliable steel construction partner!

Services - structural steel engineering

As specialists in the processing of sheet steel with traditional main core services in

  • construction and repair of steel and composite-steel bridges as road and railway bridges
  • restoration, strengthening and repair of steel constructions, such as, for example, on crane tracks and steel support structures for structural engineering
  • welding seams repair

we see ourselves today also as an innovative and reliable partner for various operations in heavy-duty structural steel engineering, such as in power plant construction, industrial plant construction and hydraulic steel construction.

Thorough quality assurance and flexible, prompt reactions to the requirements of our clients in small as well as large projects are part of our daily practice. Durability and longevity of welded and bolted joints are always of paramount importance.

Steel construction projects

Throughout Germany, numerous steel and composite steel bridges (of 50 to 5000 tons) have been designed, manufactured, assembled and brought to their final location by us. Building and maintaining connections from and over streets, railway tracks, waterways and supply lines is part of our day-to-day business.

In addition to repair and remediation works on historical and partly also on listed buildings, our services have also been used for reinforcement of recent steel constructions or for constructing welding seams in especially sensitive areas, and have been highly valued by our clients.

With our qualified personnel, we guarantee high quality, particularly in projects involving scheduled check intervals and production stops. It all begins in the technical office, where workshop and assembly plans are developed by our structural engineers, constructors and designers, and at our structural steel assemblies, where our employees - from fitter and welder through supervisor to the assembly manager and engineer are at work. Their extensive knowledge and years of experience, coupled with a wide inventory of in-house assembly equipment, enables us to find the perfect solution for your requirements. It goes without saying that, for us, the manufacturing of steel components in our own workshops at Nordhausen is as important as the inclusion of other production partners in Germany and abroad, whereby quality assurance is always paid particular attention. We consider ourselves as a quality-oriented, innovative and reliable partner for your structural steel engineering projects.

Workshop fabrication

Structural steel components are pre-fabricated in our in-house workshops and are furnished with the necessary corrosion protection, whereby particularly heavy-duty steel plates are processed.

Thermal cutting
- up to 24.0 m x 5.0 m x 0.25 m (lxbxh)

Machining
- with modern CNC boring and milling machines
- up to 14.0 m x 2.0 m x 1.7 m (xyz)

Production
- up to 130 t unit weight
- dimensions up to 90 m x 7.60 m x 8.50 m (lxbxh)

Corrosion protection
- Surface preparation through derusting by blasting
- Surface coating by airless method, hot-spraying method, high-pressure method
Airmix and Aircombi

On-site installation

On the basis of the assembly plans developed in our technical office, we carry out our on-site installations with our own qualified specialist staff, whereby the processes are coordinated and monitored by experienced assembly managers and welding engineers. The necessary supporting and stiffening constructions are prepared in our own assembly yard, are adapted to particular application and, when required, are also produced according to the project.

Lifting and shifting processes

The development of the steel and composite steel bridge construction in our company was accompanied by the demand to bring these steel constructions ourselves to their designated final locations. While, in the early days, we primarily relied on rolling and shifting track systems, nowadays, modern shifting stations or self-propelled transport modules are preferably used. In addition to modern welding equipment, we also have, in our own assembly yard, an extensive equipment inventory for our assembly processes such as:

  • ifting and shifting unit (HVE), 600 t compressive force
  • patented shifting module up to v6000 KN
  • Launching nose with hydraulic lifting table
  • Gantry crane system up to 50 t
  • Hydraulic presses / stacking systems up to 5 MN
  • Hydraulic drive systems
  • Support tower systems up to 6 MN
  • Slideways and rollways

We ensure the success of our assembly procedures with sound planning, our own assembly equipment and our own qualified personnel.

Welding seams repair / HIFIT

A professional and high-quality restoration of welding seams places high demands on a welding operation. High levels of satisfaction of our clients confirm that we more than lived up to these demands. The necessary documentation and welding inspections are also carried out in-house.

In order to improve the durability of the weld seams made by us, our company took part in the research project REFRESH, whose objective was to extend the lifespan of the already existing and newly welded steel constructions. The fatigue strength of the welds increased by 80 to 100% in the result by using the high-frequency peening method HIFIT (High Frequency Impact Treatment), which prompted us to continually apply this method further. It is thus possible to prolong the lifespan of the entire construction by reworking highly stressed weld details. Already completed projects in the fields of steel bridge construction, crane tracks and mechanical engineering show that the range of applications is diverse and that they can also help remedy the known problems, usually in combination with a classical weld seam repair.

Research and development

We are regularly involved in research projects in structural steel engineering, where the emphasis is on the practical implementation and deployment of our technical skills. Furthermore, in our technical office, innovative assembly technologies as well as the necessary assembly auxiliary constructions are developed, designed, and finally manufactured in our own workshops. In 2011, another in-house development, the lift-and-shift mechanism (HVE) was added to our patented shifting modules, which are characterized by their compact design. This development was prompted by the necessity to erect the central arch of the Schnettker Bridge in Dortmund, which we managed to accomplish in a very limited space without disrupting traffic. Thus, we now have a modern, compact piece of equipment, which can horizontally shift loads of up to 20,000 tonnes, or can be universally used to lift and erect heavy-duty steel components.
